A little about me:

Name: Michelle A. Arb
Hometown: Sun Prairie, WI
Interests: Reading, Cheerleading, and working with adolescents
Education and Professional Teaching Background: I attended North Central College and graduated in June of 2013 with an English Literature Major and Secondary Education and French Minors.
I had the pleasure of Student Teaching at Lincoln Junior High School in Naperville, IL in the spring of 2013. While there I worked
with 7th grade students in a Project Intuition (Gifted) Language Arts, Language Arts, and Social Science. I taught a variety of
different lessons and units through a multitude of strategies. Every day we would use a different style of learning which included
interactive SmartBoards, ELMO projectors, laptops, small group work, whole class interaction, and individual development.
I spent my first year teaching in Freeport, IL as an 11th grade English teacher. I taught English 11 and 11 Honors. I taught a curriculum aligned with the ELA Common Core Standards. I was not formally observed based on the Danielson Evaluation Model but I made preparations and began building my portfolio. I was also involved in symposiums exploring techniques and strategies in personalized mastery. While at Freeport I coached the JV Cheerleading Squad and attended the ICCA (Illinois Cheerleading Coaches Association) Convention.
I continued my second and third year of teaching in Freeport, but as a 7th grade ELA teacher. I was ecstatic for the opportunity to be back working with an age group that I am most passionate about. I continued my growth as an educator and expanded my learning outside the classroom by joining committees such as the Illinois Teacher Leader Cadre and the Social Studies/ELA cross-curriculum development team. I was a part of a supportive staff community and worked along side my team members and closely with my administrators. I assisted my staff with the transition into preparing for the PARCC Assessment. I was fortunate enough to continue on as the JV Cheerleading Coach and lead my team to be the first JV team to ever compete in the history of Freeport High School.
